Navy Captain Wes Masters, newly posted to head the White House Medical Unit, is a physician with only one priority patient, but her job is twenty-four/seven. Her charge is simple--ensure the health and well-being of the most powerful man in the world--the president of the United States. As the First Physician, Wes travels by President Andrew Powell's side, in the hot zone, with everything she needs to save his life if he is injured or falls ill. Her job gets even harder when Powell embarks on the campaign trail, accompanied by his high-profile daughter, Blair, and shadowed by paparazzi, zealots masquerading as patriots, and not-so-peaceful protesters. US Secret Service Agent Evyn Daniels, a member of the president's Personal Protection Detail (the elite PPD), is assigned to indoctrinate the new head of the WHMU in the necessary protocols--a job she wouldn't have to do if the right person had gotten the job, her best friend, Doctor Peter Chang. As they set off on the campaign trail, Wes and Evyn declare an uneasy professional truce, while privately their relationship is heating up fast. A First Responders Novel.… (more)

Yep. I have no read these Honor series books totally and truly out of order. Yikes. (I swear it's on my list to read Above All, Honor sooner rather than later. It's on Overdrive and everything).

This one is technically in both the Honor Series as well as the First Responders Series. It's about Wes, a Captain in the Navy and the new head of the White House medical unit, and Evyn, a Secret Service agent who is on the Presidential Protection Detail.

There's a possible leak somewhere among those who protect the president, and so Wes and Evyn have to find it, with the help of the new first daughter-in-law and Homeland Security Agent, Cameron (Blair, her new wife is the daughter of the President and in the book as well).

There's a lot going on while Evyn and Wes are also getting closer, but, not without some bumps in the road.

The romance was okay, and even though I sorta guessed early on some of the plot points, I liked the thriller/mystery part of the book anyway.

It was a good novel and reminded me once again that I need to finally read the rest of the Honor series for sure. ( )
