Based on a homestead girl's diary as well as interviews with the woman in her later years, this book outlines what it was like to be part of a homestead family living on the Prairie in Nebraska. The example poster that drew those pioneers to Nebraska - and the other plains states - was an interesting addition to the story. It's real estate advertising at it's best. List all the good and none of the bad. ( ) Book we read in the mother/daughter book club. We were living in Nebraska at the time so we really enjoyed reading about a young girls life in the 1880's. We were amazed at the lack of any kind of entertainment in many cases. She would have to stay out with the cows all day as they grazed sometimes with nothing to do!
