Brandon O’Malley hat ein Alkoholproblem und landet in einer Entzugsklinik. Der Entzug ist nicht einfach, doch er kommt nach einer Weile nach Hause und muss nun sein Leben in den Griff bekommen. Er muss feststellen, dass sich für ihn einiges verändert hat. So soll er ein altes Haus renovieren, statt in die Geschäftsleitung aufzusteigen. Dort lernt er ein entzückendes Mädchen namens Mike kennen und ihre Mutter Daphne. Doch Daphnes Vergangenheit holt sie bald ein und Brandon muss zeigen, was wirklich in ihm steckt.
Dies ist mein erstes Buch aus der Neuengland-Reihe von Marie Force. Der Schreibstil der Autorin liest sich leicht und flüssig.
Die Charaktere sind gut beschrieben. Die O’Malleys sind eine Familie, die zueinandersteht. show more Man muss sie einfach mögen. Sie gibt Brandon nach seinem Entzug den nötigen Rückhalt. Auch Brandon, der zunächst gar nicht so sympathisch wirkt, zeigt was in ihm steckt. Auch Daphne und ihre herzallerliebste Tochter Mike gefallen mir gut.
Es ist eine emotionale Geschichte, die allerdings auch schon mal zum Schmunzeln anregt.
Natürlich ist das Ende vorhersehbar, aber trotzdem hat mich die Geschichte gut unterhalten. show less

Marie Force was born in Newport, Rhode Island and grew up in neighboring Middletown. She graduated from Middletown High School in 1984, and attended the University of Rhode Island, where she double majored in both journalism and political science. She graduated in 1988 and went to work for a local community newspaper, where she learned a great show more deal about writing and editing. Marie went on to earn a master's degree in public administration through a program offered by the University of Maryland. Before becoming a full-time author, she worked as a communications director for a non-profit organization and editor-in-chief of a national trade magazine.
