#1477 in our old book database. Rated "Indifferent."

Jan Brett graces Moore's poem with his sumptuous illustrations, managing to slip in a visual sub-plot about a cat, a pug, and two mischievous elves as a bonus. ( )

So.....I'm conflicted on this one. The Night Before Christmas is a classic. I enjoy it and I think it will be a regular one in the Christmas rotation. However, Jan Brett's illustrations (in this case) are not my favorite. Even Scott made the comment that they were a bit too old fashioned, too busy, for his tastes. While that works in other Jan Brett texts, I don't love that when I am reading The Night Before Christmas.

My rating for this is more like a 2.5. ( )

I never knew about the authorship controversy surrounding this poem. Very intriguing. ( )
