Elementally Evolved: Book One Set in a world that closely resembles our own, Burn is a story of redemption and betrayal, of family and sacrifice, which leads to the greatest question of all: how far would you go to save the ones you love? Fifteen years ago, Felix Paracel killed his mother with fire that shot from his hands. Since then, he has hidden from forces bent on exploiting him and his fire and wind Elemental abilities. But Felix's world is about to change, because he is Findo Unumâthe Split Oneâand his coming has been foretold for generations. Though Felix's arrival brings great joy to the Elemental world, it also heralds a coming darkness. No one knows this better than Seven, the mysterious man who rescued Felix from that horrible fire years ago and then disappeared... who now has returned to claim what's rightfully his: Felix's heart. But even as Felix begins to trust Seven and his feelings about his place in the world, the darkness reveals itself, bringing consequences no one could have predicted.… (more)

DNF @ 56%. I love most of Klune's writing but knowing that this series is dropped and won't continue kind of sucked the motivation to read it when the story itself wasn't all that interesting anyway. The relationship between Felix and Seven has major Twilight vibes and was a big turn-off. Seven is very controlling yet naïve and Felix is a total pushover with a bad personality. There wasn't any chemistry, just Seven stalking Felix for most of his life because he was told Felix was his soulmate. The action scenes I did read where well done and the world that could have been developed here was unique - just not enough to keep me engaged.

Klune has created a riveting new world, one that is somewhat lacking in foundation but just as real as any despite this. There is something for everyone here--love, action, fantasy--though the lingering on each section may make readers eager for the next section of their preferred genre; even so, it is a fast and action-packed plot. The plot could easily be compressed, making for an overly long read. It is hoped that any plot gaps will be resolved in the sequel, and despite any weaknesses, readers will eagerly anticipate this sequel. The twists at the end will require EMR on standby, so breathless will they leave readers. These alone make any and all weaknesses in the story well worth the read. Overall, a riveting story that will win Klune many fans. ( )
