The Kid goes to therapy, and Mrs. Paquinn show more decides that Bigfoot is real. Anna and Creed do... well, whatever it is Anna and Creed do. There are newfound jealousies, the return of old enemies, bad poetry, and misanthropic seagulls. And through it all, Bear struggles to understand his mother's abandonment of him and his brother, only to delve deeper into their shared past. What he finds there will alter their lives forever and help him realize what it'll take to become who they're supposed to be. Family is not always defined by blood. I really, really liked this story. I love how in this book Bear seems to have gotten over some of his misgivings that rode him in the first book and has learned that “Nothing's too fast if it means forever.” This one also takes us further into some of the other relationships, not just Bear, Otter, and The Kid, but Anna, Creed, Mrs. Paquinn, the two sets of parents, and even Bear's evil mom. The memories of her are necessary because, as the book is titled, they influence who we are. Everyone was impacted by what she did before the events in book one. I probably hold the World Championship title for reading series out of order, but this is one that absolutely needs to be read in order. We even get some new characters that add to the show more drama of this sweet and sometimes, funny series. Everyone has a part to play in Bear and Otters HEA...and we have to remember that "it's not about where you come from. It's about who you are.” I don't usually include quotes from the book but this one just begs to be included. "I told him that we would grow old together, that I'd be there to make fun of him when he started to get fat and bald, when he'd get spots on his hands. I told him we'd build a little house by the beach, and we'd sit on the porch wrapped up in a blanket and that the world would pass us by and that it was okay. It was okay because we'd have lived it all already". show less

I cannot explain how much I love this story and these people.
Before I even got past the first 20% I was laughing so hard that I had tears running down my face and neck, my eyes were swollen. As embarrassing as it is, I have to admit, I ending up peeing on myself and then throwing up because I just could not for the life of me stop laughing so hard. I mean just wow.
The coming out dinner discussion was off the charts. It will remain one of my all time favorite scenes. I'll never forget—GayTube, unicorns, rainbows, gay laser beams, porn, plague of locusts, wine, coitus, word play, Jorge the male nurse, the hug—all of it *sigh* good times.
I love how unique this character line-up is, the wide age range, the show more realness to them all. I love them all for their differences they lend. Bear, being the storyteller of the book, gets my attention the most with all of his neurotic head trips, but it's how they all play off each other that makes this so amazing.
Your family needs you, Bear. You're the one thing that holds them all together, and without you, they're just as lost."
Just looking through all of my book highlights makes me start giggling again.
"So would you call yourself a...hmmm, that doesn't sound appropriate..a 'nasty come hungry bottom dumpster bitch'?"And of course I can't forget the sexy.
"Would either of you be going in drag?" the Kid asks. "I was researching gay history and I'm quite taken with drag queens. They have cool hats and stage names. I found a drag queen name generator online, and my drag queen name is Minerva Fox. I would probably sing a lot of Barbra."
"Who's Barbra?" I ask him, glancing at Otter. Otter looks as baffled as I do.
He shrugs. "All the pictures I saw said that drag queens sang Barbara. I don't even know what that means."
An hour later, we lay next to each other, spent and gasping, his spunk trickling out of my ass and down my thigh [...]And the awwww.

I'm not leaving out all the tears. Yes, I cried a lot, again.

First of all if you haven't read Bear Otter and the Kid go read it, you need to.
Now on to Who We Are. I don't think I've read another book in a long time that affected me like this one did. I laughed uproariously one minute, and bawled my eyes out the next. From the very first word to the last, I was dragged in and totally involved in every aspect of each characters lives. The range of emotions that I experienced while reading this covered everything from shock, anger, righteous indignation, hilarity, sadness and love. Its all in this book. One of the best books I have read in a long time.

I have the feeling TJ Klune had much fun writing this sequel to his Bear, Otter and the Kid. This is basically a family novel, so much that Bear and Otter have an equal share of importance than them and Ty, the kid. But it’s not only their family, it’s also Otter and Creed’s (Bear’s best friend and Otter’s brother) family, Anna’s (Bear’s previous girlfriend) family, and the makeshift family Bear and Otter created for Ty, made of his babysitter, his friends, his teachers… it’s a choral novel about family value.
But it’s not all saccharin and good feelings, because Klune’s ironic character sometime makes its appearance, and he often sends messages to his readers, of course referring to the previous novel, but also to show more the conversation around it, to the online groups he frequents, maybe even to some fan emails he received. So there is a lot of Bear and Otter, but there is also a lot of TJ in this novel.
It’s also a romance, more bordering on the sweet than the erotic; sure, these two guys are young and horny, and so as soon as love enters their mind, sex is the obvious means to express it, but there aren’t really graphic detailed sex scenes, more imagines and hints of them (like Otter under the shower and all what it brings to mind to Bear, Otter’s sexy voice, and again, all what it brings to mind to Bear… it seems that everything Otter does brings to mind sex to Bear).
One warning though, you have to read Bear, Otter and the Kid before this one, because this is more than a sequel, this is basically a continuation. At the end of the previous book, a lot of things were hanging and they will find closure here, so much that there is practically only few weeks between the end of the previous plot and the beginning of this one. On the contrary, at the end of Who We Are, a cycle is closed, but not the universe, and maybe there will be space for other characters to develop their own personal love story.

Oh my goodness. Rip my still beating heart out of my chest and butcher it to tiny pieces then ground it in the dirts. Only to then carefully clean each piece, put every one back in its place and return it to my chest.
I didn’t cry at all. Haven’t in the series yet but man the emotional rollercoaster was intense. And I loved every moment of it.

Again I have finished a book in less than 24 hours. The only other time this has occurred was with the first book in this series just over 24 hours ago. As with the first book I was laughing out loud and had tears in my eyes. The story line and writing is amazing and keeps you hooked at all times. On to the third book! Man a fourth one better be in progress!
