It entertains me so much that even here, when everything is coming to a climax and it looks like everyone very well may die, that Phoney is still trying to make a quick buck.
He's the funniest of the problem characters, but just his actions tell you so much about the depth of this story. This isn't a simple "good vs evil" tale. Yes, that part exists, and it's wonderful, but there is so much else going on. Every character has his own goals and motivations. Jeff Smith's wonderful series continues to get more and more complicated. I'm anxious to see how it wraps up.

This is the eight book in the nine book Bone series by Jeff Smith. It was another excellent addition to this series and filled with more humor than the previous book, despite the darkness of parts of the tale.
The Bones along with Gran'ma Ben and Thorn have finally reached Atheia. Here they reunite with some of Gran'ma Ben's old friends. Atheia is under rule of a dictator like man and they need to decide if they can count on his help in the upcoming battle against the King of Locusts. Meanwhile Lucius and crew are also trying to make their way to Atheia through the Ghost Circles.
This was another great installment in this series. There was a lot more humor packed into this book than in the previous one. So, despite the darkness and show more serious surrounding the upcoming war, I found myself laughing out loud a number of times. It was great to be back with Thorn, Gran'ma Ben, and the Bones...I love how Thorn is young and funny but has moments where she is tough as nails.
I have been missing the inclusion of the Dragons some; I was hoping they would feature more in these later books but mostly they are just talked about.
The book ended well but I am very eager to see how things are wrapped up in the ninth book, Crown of Horns. The illustration is as excellent as ever and remains consistent with previous books.
Overall I loved this book and can't wait to read Crown of Horns to see how things wrap up. show less

Once again, this volume ramps up the tension right up to before hell breaks loose. Phoney is still trying his schemes, and while Fone Bone tries to tell him to stop, he doesn't. Again, this character flaw feels annoying when his bad habits don't leave him with bad consequences. Otherwise, the story's pretty good.
Treasure Hunters is really only readable as a serial installment of Bone, but it is a pretty good one, centered on intrigue in the royal city of Atheia. It ends with a gargantuan cliffhanger.
This penultimate volume of Bone is the most serious yet, as all the forces of corruption and evil seem to be lined up against our heroes. Phoney Bone continues to focus on his greedy schemes, the Atheians are led by a dragon-hating tyrant, and Briar is leading the Pawans and rat creatures toward Atheia. Can Thorn prove that she is something special and save the day (with Fone Bone's help of course)? We will have to check out the final volume to find out.
The book "Bone: Treasure Hunters" is written by Jeff Smith and illustrated by Steve Hamaker. This book is considered a graphic novel because it contains words that describe the story line as well as pictures that clarify the setting and other extra information needed to enhance the development of the story. This book contains animated characters that are made up and a few human characters. The Bone series contains the same protagonists including Smiley and Phoney Bone. Each book contains a different adventure that they experience and the people that they meet along the way.
As the book begins the group including Phoney Bone and Smiley follow some unusual footprints that lead to a town surrounded by ghost circles. With the accompaniment show more of Gran’ma Ben and Thorn, they must find a way to make it through the gate of Atheia without being noticed and face many battles and obstacles that disrupt their treasure hunt. Because this is volume 8, it is hard to comprehend many parts of the story or to understand some of the background information unless the student has read the previous seven books.
I did not enjoy reading this book. I found it quite difficult to stay attentive due to the unusual characters and the events that took place. I was not interested in the storyline and found it difficult to steadily read the book due to reading the words and observing the illustrations. I believe that children may like this book because it contains a visual aid that will allow their imaginations to expand and help the visual learners to comprehend what is being described. This book can be compared to some science fiction books like Star Wars because of the types of creatures and obstacles that they come across. I believe that students will enjoy this book; however, I found it very hard to relate to the characters and the things that they had to endure.
Below are several teaching ideas, concerns, themes, or connections with other text that a teacher could consider important and could possibly teach:
• Allow the students to make a treasure map and describe obstacles they will have to face in order to reach their destination.
• Ask the students to create their own comic/graphic novel that tells a fictional story. Let them make up new creatures as their characters and include different elements that will enhance the story’s originality.
After reading this book, I would probably not teach it in my classroom. Although I do believe that students should be aware of graphic novels and their elements, I think this book would be difficult to read. The book ends with “to be continued” so the students never find out what happened. I do like that this ending leaves the students wanting to read more; however, I find it very frustrating to read an entire book and not know the final resolution. show less

Bone is a book that is about three bone creatures whose name is Phony bone,Smily bone, and Fone bone. The three are with a creature called a rat creature. Also their is a princess called Thorn along with Grandma Ben. Phone Bone and Smiley Bone who take a hay stack from a farmer(farm worker). Tension mounts as our story nears its end. This volume isn't quite as dark as the last entry but it is intense as lines are drawn and the sides gather to prepare for the final battle. Capturing the princess is the enemy's main objective, while gathering the troops and still finding a last minute way to stop The Lord of the Locusts is our heroes'. Humour is also a big part of this volume as Phoney is once again on one of his schemes to become wealthy show more as indicated by the title of this volume. I don't want to say much more for those who haven't read this far yet. But the second last book in the series keeps the quality one has come to expect from this series, ends with a note of doom, making one eager to read the final volume. A great series for kids.
Phone bone touches a cold spot that was a ghost spot . The ghost spot was a person in a old robe like person.
