Betsy's Napoleon is based directly on the memoirs of Betsy Balcome Arbell's Recollection of the Emperor Napoleon During His Time Spent by Him in Her Father's Home In St. Helena, & although the author does admit to taking some liberties in the writing of this novel, she is able to admit which in parts she did so. Even so, it still accurately portrays events more realistically than most books of historical fiction. It is well written, & extends beyond the few anecdotes used all too often in books concerning Betsy Balcome & Napoleon's stay at the Briars. ( )
