Description
It's hundreds of miles from the nearest ocean, and a hundred times too big to be a ship. It looks like nothing anyone ever saw. And it's crashed just outside Tombstone with something alive inside."Bear is an author you can count on to deliver the good read. This one shows a serious interest in the Doc Holliday character, about whom more has been written than known. I like Bear's take on him, particularly the way he picks up on the time travel bit. This isn't your usual pulp Doc."—Locus

Doc John Holliday is hired by a party of out-of-towners - including several women - to lead them out to something strange out in the desert: a bizarre metal structure that may or may not be abandoned. He's got his misgivings right from the start, but the longer he spends with the strangers, the stranger things get. I liked this one, despite having a little bit of a problem keeping all of the characters straight, and not being entirely sure I really got what was going on. Mostly, it made me want to read more westerns (or western-flavored stories, more to the point.)
...Bear builds the tension like in a spaghetti western, but uses elements that warp the story into something unexpected. Faster Gun is a very enjoyable read if you don't mind a blend of genres.
