Description
Gray Preston was born into money, but he's built his racing empire on hard work and muscle. And now that Gray has millions of fans, his senator father sends one of his aides, Evelyn Hill, to elicit Gray's help in garnering votes for the upcoming national election. Gray wants nothing to do with his estranged father's campaign, but Evelyn can be pretty persuasive. She's willing to learn about racing, and maybe even get a little dirty. Evelyn's number one goal is politics, which makes working show more with Gray difficult, because his only passion is fast cars. As she and Gray spend time together, he teaches her about the sport he loves, and she learns a lot about the man behind the wheel. The more she learns, the more she wants him. But any desire that threatens to derail the carefully laid plans for her future is a dangerous one. With the passion Gray and Evelyn share running hotter than either imagined, one of them is going to have to compromise, or else run the risk of losing more than their hearts. show lessTags

Jaci Burton writes some seriously spicy romances. This one is no exception. Gray Preston races cars. He is also independently wealthy and the son of a Senator who is in the running for Vice President. Gray and his father haven't spoken or met for years. Gray couldn't handle that his father always put politics first and him second. He has been rebuffing his father's overtures toward him for years.
Evelyn Hill works for his father and wants Gray to get on-board to help his father become Vice President. She is smart, lovely, confident, and sure that she can convince Gray. After he refuses her first offer, she brings in the big guns - his mother - who convinces him to play along. Evelyn will be hanging around with Gray on the race circuit show more and helping him beef up his social network presence to convince his fans to support his father.
Despite a rocky start, each one of them is attracted to the other. They begin a sex-with-no-strings relationship which conceals the fact they they are both falling in love. The more they get to know each other the more in love they become. But each is guarded and neither knows what the other is feeling.
The sex scenes were spicy and the romance grew realistically. I liked seeing some of the characters from the earlier Play-By-Play novels make appearances in this one too. Fans of romance - especially the spicy sort - will find all kinds of things to enjoy in this story. show less

Oh Gray, you wonderful man in a fire suit, you. That man is wickedly talented, in several areas. Nom nom.
I've been waiting for Gray's story from the second he was mentioned in Thrown By a Curve that was published a few months back. And I wasn't disappointed. What a sweet guy. Also, what an asshole. LOL
So, Grayson Preston, this sweet asshole has daddy issues and has basically separated himself from his family. Daddy dearest is a politician that needs his son's fan base to support his political career and sends one of his aides to get Gray to agree to help out.
Evelyn Hill is the aide.
Gray is a race car driver and owns his own crew company.
The rest is the actual story which I'm not going to talk about. However, true to Jaci's previous show more PbP books, this one doesn't disappoint. There are issues, there is lust, there's tension, a little angst thrown in to the pot, and one wickedly sweet love story.
I'm betting on his sister and Drew for the next one. Either that or Trevor and Haven - I'd love to get their story, as well. show less

One Sweet Ride
2 Stars
Very little chemistry between the main characters, no real obstacles to overcome and the sex is repetitive and tedious.
Gray’s problematic relationship with his father has potential but is underdeveloped and the resolution is predictable and contrived.
Aside from her job and ambition, we know next to nothing about Evelyn’s background and life. The secondary characters are poorly fleshed out and only seem to be mentioned as couples for additional books in the series.
All in all, a lackluster addition to a so-so series.

Things between Evelyn and Gray heat up pretty fast- Gray didn't have to persuade Evelyn to get in his bed but keeping her in it is a different story. Some family issues come to light and get resolved. Lots of hot juicy sex. I like how the author gets things started in this book for the next couple she's writing about. Fabulous ending.
Another great story, but I sensed things a little different now with Gray and Evelyn. I missed all those times that we were involved in the sport the main character plays, but the story still managed to bring all those incredibly sexy and hot scenes with some humour, angst and romance. Now I can't really wait to read Carolina and Drew's story, that one will be epic. ;)

Another hot story from Jaci Burton...
Since I've been reading the series all at once, I can't not notice the repetitions of sentences and events (after a while, all that sex is boring...) and that is not good, at least for me. Again we are presented to a sexy alpha male, a strong and equally sexy heroine and boomm, sparks everywhere :)
It seems to me that a little less sex in some of the books worked better.
All in all, I liked the story and as it is a continuity of characters from other books, it works for me.
I can't wait for the next one...it seems promising :)
