Fiction. Mystery. Thriller. HTML:

New York Times bestselling and Edgar Award-winning author Lisa Scottoline revolutionized crime fiction when she introduced her Philadelphia-based all-female law firm of Rosato & Associates, thrilling listeners with her twisty, fast-paced plots and capturing their hearts with her cast of strong and relatable female characters.
Now Bennie Rosato, Mary DiNunzio, Judy Carrier, and Anne Murphy are back with all cylinders firing in Accused.
Mary Dinuzio has just been promoted to partner and is about to take on her most unusual case yet, brought to the firm by a thirteen-year-old genius with a penchant for beekeeping. Allegra Gardner's sister Fiona was murdered six years ago, and it seemed like an open-and-shut case: the accused, Lonnie Stall, was seen fleeing the scene; his blood was on Fiona and her blood was on him; most damningly, Lonnie Stall pleaded guilty. But Allegra believes Lonnie is innocent and has been wrongly imprisoned. The Gardner family is one of the most powerful in the country and Allegra's parents don't believe in reopening the case, so taking it on is risky. But the Rosato & Associates firm can never resist an underdog. Was justice really served all those years ago? It will take a team of unstoppable female lawyers, plus one thirteen-year-old genius, to find out.

really got into the characters...but just wanted more action drawing me into the plot. I could put it down at times, and I wanted more Patterson type action/suspense keeping me going. My second Scottoline book...so far, not a huge fan ( )

I bought this book in a library sale and it turned out to be a signed copy.

Mary DiNunzio is a lawyer working at a law firm called Rosato & Associates. She has just become partner, and also just become engaged to her boyfriend, Anthony.

Mary and her colleague, Judy, are consulted by a thirteen year-old girl, Allegra Gardner; her sister, Fiona, was murdered six years ago and a man called Lonnie was arrested for the crime and put in prison. Allegra firmly believes Lonnie is innocent and wants the two to prove this and thus get him free, and also find the identity of her sister’s true murderer.

Mary and Judy agree to take the case. Allegra’s father does not believe Lonnie to be innocent, but Allegra has recently come into money of her own so she can hire and pay lawyers by herself.

Allegra claims that she is a genius and this seems to be true; she also keeps bees.

Allegra’s rich father is aggressively opposed to Mary and Judy taking the case, but they visit Lonnie in prison and, like, Allegra, believe in his innocence, so continue with the case.

Mary and Judy investigate who Fiona’s true killer is and find various suspects.

Mary comes from an Italian family with many members and there’s a lot about that in the book, some of it somewhat boring, but still I found it very readable and suspenseful. ( )

I cannot believe it's been three years since Scottoline's last book about the all-women law firm in Philly. The book opens with Mary DiNunzio's party celebrating her promotion to partner. It's a little heavy on the family to start, but the party is interrupted by a member of a scion family coming with a legal problem, which turns out to be 13-year old Allegra Gardner, who wants Mary (and her bestie, Judy Carrier) to re-open the investigation of her older sister's murder. Allegra is a pip: razor sharp, but with a history of mental issues. The Gardner family is adamantly opposed since the alleged murderer confessed, but Mary's dogged pursuit of justice and champion for the little guy uncovers the truth. Lisa, please don't make us wait so long again for another book!! ( )
