This is my favourite 'what books to read' book. It's great because it doesn't only concentrate on the literatures of the 'big' nations, but has gone around the world. It's also wonderful because it suggests places to visit and music to listen to as well. A fantastic book for those who love to read.

Within the genre, books about books, this is the most comprehensive guide to world literature. I find it a boon companion to my reading and a friend that will be with me for the rest of my life.

I've had this book for years. It was one of the first to bring in books from all over the world. It's importance to my life is inestimable.

Of all the books that do this sort of thing, Ward's is by far the best! Much better than Fadiman!
