raizel Marilyn Hirsh adds ditsy guardian angels as well as friendship and cooperation between the Jewish man and the guard (and among their followers) to the story that Uri Shulevitz tells more concisely.

A retelling of The Treasure with added guardian angels whose mixing things up makes everything turn out even better in the end. Rabbi Jacob and Captain Jiri realize that their followers can benefit from the others' skills and they get together to share what they know. (But we already know this is a fantasy because of the angels; in other words, it's a sweet ending, but feels saccharine.)
The story, with different illustrations, is also in The Kingfisher treasury of Jewish stories
