I sure do like this little series of two totally opposite best friends, but both free-thinking, independent, Ivy and "Bean". ( )

Bean watches an old black-and-white movie with her mom and gets inspired to become a private investigator just like "Al Seven." But does Pancake Court have any mysteries? After a few false starts, Bean finds a good one...but can she solve it? Maybe - with a little help from Ivy.

As other reviewers have said, this entry to the series is a little off. The ending is odd, for sure, no matter whether you think there's more unsaid or not. And the little mysteries that Bean solves shouldn't have been mysteries in the first place - for example, why was she told 'it's none of your business' to so many things that it's perfectly ok for her to be curious about? And even before that, why did Mom think she was ready for film noir?

I will say I didn't realize the series was up to book 10 already and I will look for the ones I've not yet read. ( )

Ivy and Bean Take the Case is a book that starts out with Bean watching movies with her mother. They end up watching a movie about a detective that inspires Bean to become a detective herself. She finds a hat, sets up a stand, finds her friend Ivy to be her partner, and begins finding mysteries to solve. Although they believe they are finding mysteries left and right, students begin disagreeing with Ivy and Bean that their mysteries are not really mysteries at all. This continues until everyone agrees on one mystery that is strange to everyone, who put the rope on the fence and why? They investigate, come up with theories, and test them until they come to a conclusion of who did it. This book is realistic fiction.
