Three novellas written by women, they fall into the more literary end of SF, the end that often gets handwaved into regular fiction by people who can't face up to reading genre fiction. The three stories are more about humanity facing up to their shortcomings, rather than truly SF with a more gadget orientated turn.
Joan D Vigne's The Crystal Ship has a woman face up to what her ancestors did when they colonised a world.
Megan's World by Marta Randall is about a messed up family and a cyborg that has to choose whose side she's on.
Screwtop by Vonda McIntyre is about some prisoners and their lives and choices. Probably my favourite of the three.
Sadly the Silverberg introduction could be reprinted with minor updates to the mentioned authors show more and still be relevant. show less
