An engaging, informative introduction to the Nobel Peace Prize-winning activist who developed the microcredit economic movement that gives small loans to the impoverished with the goal of breaking the cycle of rural poverty around the world. An inspiring story, told well and appealingly illustrated.
In my opinion this is a great book. The book pushes readers to think about tough issues. The main character, Muhammad is determined to help poverty in his home country of Bangladesh. He sets up a loan system that allows the women to barrow small amounts of money in groups. Even though he has no reason to trust the women, he gives them the benefit of the doubt and it pays off because he wins the Nobel Peace Prize and helps to eliminate poverty. Also, this book uses descriptive language. The book explains words such as loan, interest, economics, and many more. Overall the point of this book is to inform readers on the importance of Muhammad Yunas, Grameen Bank and their determination to end poverty in Bangladesh.
This book is about Muhammad Yunus, who grew up in Bangladesh, and how he witnessed very extreme poverty. He was an Economics professor, and he met a women who lived in a small village and needed to borrow twenty-two cents, and since no bank would lend that small amount of money, especially to a women, she had no other choice but to borrow from lenders who ended up being corrupt and charged her way more than they should have. Muhammad was inspired by this and founded a bank where people could borrow small amounts of money in order to start a job, and eventually make a profit.
biography about Muhammad Yunas' life. Created a bank system for India.
