These Indian detective stories are delightful. Teenager Topshe accompanies his genius cousin Feluda, who solves mysteries like Sherlock Holmes, only in India. These stories were originally published in the author's children's magazine. They were very popular, even among adults. Although readers wanted him to spice up his stories with "adult" elements, Ray refused and continued to write them as he had. Ray's short stories are more sophisticated and diverse, but I'd give these to a middle school or high school reader first. Translator: Gopa Majumdar
Sixteen of Satyajit Ray's gems, volume-1 of the 2-volume collection, one of my most treasured possessions. Finishing this book left me sad... Anyway, I have the other volume which I will read sporadically to prolong the pleasure, may be for a year or more.
