Description
Since inheriting her mother's sandwich shop, Nora Charles is more about hot grilled paninis than cold-blooded murder-until her sister Lacey is arrested. The victim, an esteemed art collector and Lacey's bullying professor, was stabbed in the heart. Apparently, all over a lousy grade. Off campus, things were just as dicey. The prof had an ex with secrets, a trophy wife set to inherit a fortune in masterworks, and a scorned student mistress. Going undercover, Nora realizes that investigating show more this crime is the biggest test of her sleuthing career. Because if she fails, even Nick's animal instinct won't be enough to rescue Lacey from a perfectly executed framing. show lessTags

A cosy mystery in which no effort whatsoever was made toward realism, lots of designer shoes are envy'd, the men are frequently remarkably handsome in hunky ways, and the cat communicates clues with scrabble tiles. Bletch! Spit! Hack!
Claws for Alarm is a fun cozy mystery set in a small town. It is the second book in the series, but I don’t feel I missed anything by not reading it first.
Professor Thadeus C Pitt had arthritis, which forced him to turn in his paintbrush for a teaching position. He was brutal in his criticism. Not surprising that he wound up dead.
The characters all have their place in Cruz, but Nora and Nick are the stars.
Nora had given up her job as an investigative reporter and now runs Hot Bread, a sandwich shop. With the help of Nick, she has solved one mystery, so when Lacey, Nora’s sister, is arrested for the murder of the Professor it is not surprising that Nora and Nick team up to solve the case.
Now, let’s meet Nick. He is a cat with an show more attitude. He’s a bit plump, unable to fit in the biggest carrier Pet Palace has for sale. He also seems to have a gift. I love a critter with character and Nick is persistent and entertaining. Cozies with critters seem to be so much fun and have the ability to create a laugh or two along the way.
Claws for Alarm has more than one plot and keeps the story rolling along, teasing me with hints and clues. For me, cozy mysteries like Claws For Alarm, are easy reading with quirky characters that entertain me and allow me to relax and just enjoy the story.
I received a copy of Claws for Alarm in return for an honest review.

Definitely a Five Paw Review! I received an advance copy of this book for an honest review. I loved this book from the first page to the last. I was instantly drawn into the story line. I loved the first book in this series Meow If It's Murder and had that as my top book but now I would have to put Claws For Alarm as my number one.
Nick and Nora do not disappoint. They have a great relationship. They will have you laughing out loud because of their antics. You never know what Nick is going to do next. BTW I am talking about a very unique cat. Nora is amazed everyday by the stuff he gets into and that a normal cat couldn't. I mean, how many cats do you know that play with Scrabble tiles to spell out clues???
This book has Nora not only show more in the middle of another murder but she has to prove her sister Lacey didn't kill her professor. All the evidence is pointing to Lacey so she and Nick have to do some snooping on their own with the help of some old friends and new ones. Except a blast from the past just happens to be the lead detective on the case and puts a kink into everything. She has been told many times to stay out of investigations because she is not a PI. Wonder if she will do this?? Nora is not the kinda women to sit around while her sister is behind bars. So with Nick feeding her clues she can't help herself but investigate. Will Nora be able to help her sister in time or will she end up the real murderers next victim?
She doesn't realize how big this case is and she and Nick may be over their heads. While all of this is going on she is still trying to figure out what happened to Nick Atkins, Nick's owner. Did he vanish on his own or did someone make him disappear for good?
All the adventure and mystery you could ever want are in this great cozy. It leads you into the world of Art and betrayal all the way through the love of family and friends. I can't wait till the next book Of Crime and Catnip to continue the adventures of Nick and Nora. show less

I listened to Claws For Alarm, by T.C. Lotempio on an unabridged MP3-CD. The story was better than the way than I listened to it. I had ordered it because I loved the first book in this series. I had mistakenly ordered it thinking it was on a CD for books. I bought an MP3 player, and it broke, therefore I ended up listening to the 24 parts one by one on my computer. It was tedious to start the parts one by one.
Now, with that out of the way, the mystery had lots of twists and turns and I still Nora Charles but was started by her younger sister who had gotten herself arrested for the murder of the college art professor. Her sister, Lacey, is caught standing over the victim with a weapon in hand. Lacey did not seem grateful enough to that show more Nora was getting helping her, instead she was displaying her lifelong jealousy, Nora is the smartest and the pretty one of the two.
Now, Nick, the tuxedo cat was at his best, and he is what makes the story for me. He spills scrabble tile and arranges them into clues for the mystery. He is overweight but extremely intelligent and makes me think of my own dear cat, Happy Day, a fitter cat but an extra smart cat.
I enjoyed the story but think that if I decide to read the third and final story in the series that I will buy the e-book. show less

relationship with a fellow who works for the FBI. Now that new relationship is about to come in handy when her sister Lacey is arrested for murder.
Now why wouldn’t everyone think that Lacey committed this crime, she was shouting to everyone that she was going to kill him, and then she is found with the knife in her hand leaning over his body. Of course, more than one person had spoken the same words, but not quite as loudly in front of so many witnesses.
Of course Nora goes to her sister’s aid and brings her faithful, adopted, to big for a crate, cat Nick! He does also seem to arrive at the scene of trouble, and is so smart he give clues to Nora. Wonder if he picked up this sleuthing from his former owner and missing detective show more Nick?
If you enjoy mysteries that are full of adventure and a few murders, this one will keep your attention to the end. Get ready for a quick page-turning read, and an added bonus of some yummy recipes at the end.

Once again coincidences abound, and a college friend is the detective investing a murder that her sister has been arrested for and it just so happens that the case is involved with a smuggling case involving the FBI agent from book 1 and the entire case is tied to PI Nicks disappearance.
That's an awful lot of coincidences. Still a fun read, but not as good as [b:The Thin Man|80616|The Thin Man|Dashiell Hammett|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1321111302s/80616.jpg|1336952]
