Description
Anna Bradley presents the first novel in the Sutherland Scandals series, a tantalizing Regency romance filled with the most elegant society—and the most forbidden desires…England, 1811. Delia Somerset despises the privileged ton, but her young sister, Lily, is desperate to escape their family’s scandalous past and join high society. Unwilling to upset her sister, Delia reluctantly agrees to attend a party at the Sutherland estate—and avoid the gossip at all costs.
Alec Sutherland is show more known as a hot-headed scoundrel, but nothing gets a rise out of him as much as the news that his brother desires Delia’s hand in marriage. She is, after all, the daughter of the London belle who soiled their family name. He’s determined to ruin her reputation as well, in the most delicious way possible. It’s only a matter of time before he can woo her with his irresistible advances.
As Delia devilishly plays along in Alec’s game, determined to prove the joke is on him, they inch ever closer to repeating history. And in this game of seductive glances, scandalous whispers, and old debts, the outcome might be much more than either of them anticipated…. show less

This is my first from this author. I enjoyed it so much! What a delightful romance! Bradley does a wonderful job showing how deeply the main characters get under each other's skin (the hero especially, just can't *not* focus on her constantly) and it was great to watch the tension and conflict build. I love how enamored he becomes with her! All the side characters were well developed. (And I see that all their siblings get their own book as well, I love when authors do that). I was smiling and chuckling to myself frequently, adorableness, watching the characters trying in vain to quash their developing interest, descriptions of their conflicted feelings that were too relatable, wit, rakishness etc. etc. Side note- I very much dislike show more heroes who are assholes, and though this one makes some mistakes, I felt like he was clearly a good man at heart, deeply regretted the mistakes, and made amends, so I held no grudges! show less
This was a fun and entertaining debut and despite it being predictable, I liked the pace and the plot of it. The characters needed to grow on me as the story developed, but once they did, I enjoyed their banter and romance development.
I also liked the secondary characters, Lily and Robyn as well as Charlotte and Ellie. Every time they spoke, for some reason I giggled.
If you're looking for a light, humorous and entertaining romance, you found it!

Better-than-usual Regency romance.
Delia, the oldest of five sisters, is invited along with her sister Lily to a house party at the Earl of Carlisle's home. She's expecting to spend time with the Earl's sisters and staying in the background, but when Alec, the Earl of Carlisle, finds her intriguing and fascinating, a sweet romance ensues.
True love prevails despite the shadow of a long-ago scandal and well-meaning siblings.
A fun romp.

- If he did intend to seduce her, he’d had ample opportunity to attempt it last night. She closed her eyes and remembered the trail of fire his finger had left against her palm. Her cheeks flooded with color. Instead, he’d ... (show all)sent her back to her room as untouched and un-kissed as she’d left it.
Which was just as it should be, of course. She wasn’t in the least disappointed.
But if a wicked rake doesn’t kiss a young lady when they’re alone in a moonlit rose garden, might it mean he doesn’t intend to? There were rules about such things. Weren’t they written down somewhere? If not, then they should be. A Treatise on Rakes, written for Susceptible Young Ladies, by a Lady of Distinction.
He’d removed his coat, waistcoat and cravat and unbuttoned the top buttons of his fine white cambric shirt. He’d shoved his sleeves up past his elbows, exposing long muscular forearms dusted lightly with black hair. The h... (show all)air on his head stood on end, the too-long locks falling across his forehead. The start of a dark beard shadowed his face.
He looks like a pirate. What a perfect end to a perfect day—alone in a dark hallway with a drunken pirate who was about to fall out of his shirt.
“You’re drunk.”
“Just drunk enough,” he agreed in a low, amused voice.
Don’t ask. Don’t ask. Don’t ask.
“Just drunk enough for what?”
