This is Kimberly Brubaker Bradley's first novel, and it feels like it. Her talents are still in the honing phase.
Ruthie is the only daughter in a household with 6 or 7 brothers (I lost count) and she wants to please her mother by becoming a "lady" but the challenge is frequently too great. She's more likely to do what all her brothers are doing and disappointing her mother, yet again.
In Ruthie's Gift, she has taken a collection of stories and memories from her own grandmother and rearranged them into a novel. Many little episodes are true or true-ish stories from that woman's childhood. As such, the episodes are sometimes good, but the overall story is rather weak. The conclusion felt flat and anticlimactic.

The book ruthie's gift is a excellent book. It is about a girl named ruthie she has only brothers. her mother becomes pregnant and she wishes that it will be a girl. Her mom ends up having a boy . up the street a new family moves in. its two girls her age and a new baby sister.she knows now that she would not be the only one in her grade .but she ends up getting really sick. this book is a well written book but is for younger readers
I read this book when I was a lot younger and enjoyed it. I have since passed it on to my younger cousin who also loved it.
