She was the one who got away... Ten years ago, Brent Nichols let the love of his life slip through his fingers. It's his greatest regret, especially since she's all but disappeared. But when the gorgeous and captivating woman walks into his life unexpectedly, he's determined to win her back. Whatever it takes, he won't make the same mistake twice. Easier said than done... Shannon Paige has hardened her heart to the man she was once engaged to be married to. After the way he left, and after the hell she's been through with her checkered family, there's no way she's letting him into her life again. The problem is, the second she sees him, he's more handsome and charming than before. And she's torn between wanting to fight with him and wanting to sleep with him -- maybe both. Soon they fall into each other's arms, consumed with a desire that burns through the years. But if these two fiery lovers are going to have a real second chance at this kind of intense, passionate, bone-deep love, he'll have to give her his whole heart, and she'll have to give up all the secrets from her messy past. And that messy past is about to spill over into her carefully constructed present...… (more)

This is the 2nd book of hers I have read.
I know a lot of people like her stories but they just move too slow for me.

Yes, I did judge this book by its cover. But can you blame me? What I was lucky enough to find was a good second chance romance, with plenty of steam and an intriguing secondary plot that lifts this simple contemporary romance slightly into the realm of romantic suspense.

On the surface, you have Shannon and Brent (a name I can't really get behind for a romantic hero...but that's probably just me), who were separated by youthful mistakes and find themselves meeting again ten years later. Brent is ecstatic - all he wants to do is win Shannon back and prove to her that he's changed. Shannon on the other hand hates Brent and needs a lot of convincing. What follows is a lot of wooing by Brent - which is really sweet. We root for him to win Shannon back. But Blakely also brings us into Shannon's mindset and we then find ourselves straddling the fence once more. It's really well done. Then there is the interesting backstory - Shannon's father's murder - he was killed when she was a teenager and the case is seemingly closed. But what if there is more to the story? It makes a simple romance novel turn into something very interesting.

What I really liked was that Blakely doesn't play too heavily with the murder subplot. She puts just enough in to keep the reader interested, but you can tell she's going to spread the events throughout the four novels that make up the Sinful Nights series. It's a smart way to get readers to keep reading. It's certainly worked on me - because now I want to see what happens.

If you like second chance romances with a healthy dose of steam, and interesting characters that thought they knew each other but soon learn there is more to each than meets the eye, than I recommend this book. You'll enjoy it, and not just for the abs. ( )

Lauren Blakely, this is really good. I started reading Sweet Sinful Nights and had to force myself to put it down and go to sleep. The next morning I picked up right where I left off. Sweet Sinful Nights is a story of prideful mistakes, secrets, anger, pain and second chances. I loved how Brent did whatever it took to get Shannon to hear him out. Would love a guy who would be willing to humble himself and admit he was wrong. Lauren Blakely, I loved your book and am sure others will too.

Disclosure: Received an ARC of Sweet Sinful Nights was sent to me for an honest review. ( )

I received the audiobook for free in exchange for an honest review.
Shannon and Brent broke up ten years ago after an argument about where their lives were going. Since then both have been building successful businesses while still longing for the one who got away. Business dealings bring them back together again and in no time their love is re-ignited.
Sweet Sinful Nights was a quick, entertaining love story about second chances but ultimately a little too predictable. There was some nice humor, some pretty steamy sex and a hint of a mystery which was not resolved, but I guess will be featured more in future books.
The story was told by one male narrator who did a good job but just with one voice straightforward narrating. As there were two perspectives, a male & a female narrator may have enhanced the audio experience.
Recommended if you enjoy straightforward contemporary romances with a bit of erotica and a hint of conflict. ( )
