Not as compelling as I thought it would be. Didn't care much for the dark elves arc that served to eventually intro us to Thor... but after that things got rolling. I like the stripped-down God of Thunder in his vastly reduced (but no less awesome) post-Ragnarok form. Will agree with one other review regarding the Runic font though. Tch. Readability is important in comic-book enjoyment. ( )

After reading Ragnarok, Vol.1: Last God Standing by Walter Simonson, the only word that comes to mind is Epic! It is a dream project for the fans, in which Simonson gets back to Thor and tells what happens after the Norse Apocalypse happens. The story is told as a journey and the reader is discovering the latest evens along with the character.

The art is energetic and the designs and backgrounds are closer to the Norse myths! ( )

I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was great! A new tale set in the post-Ragnarok world of Asgard, something that I've never even considered, much less read. I really enjoyed seeing the Stone God revived, the battle scenes were portrayed very well, and the story (a quest!) was developed well. Of course, it ends on a cliffhanger. Now I'm waiting for volume 2...

Highly recommended for fans of Norse mythology, as well as fans of swords and sorcery. ( )

Walter Simonson’s interpretation of post-Ragnarok times

Beautifully illustrated, this collection deals with the times after Ragnarok with Odin dead and Hel open to allow the dead to rule. The main characters are black elf assassins, Brynja, Regn and their daughter, Drifa. It also heralds the revival of Thor in a world of dead gods.

Engaging and entertaining, this was fun to read although I found the script in runic font hard ot read in the digital edition.
