An old woman finds out who is stealing her tomatoes, and falls into a story from another old world. ( )

Lovely. A Southwest setting, in a world...not quite like ours. A rather strange protagonist, but I like her. There's a lot of myths tangled up in here - I'm amused by the variation on the Firebird, actually. I'd love to read more about her - maybe the story about her nephew and the jackalope wife? Or her new apprentice, a few years down the line? It's a fascinating universe - train-gods! I hope she does (or has) write more set here. I only saw this because it was nominated for (and won) a Hugo - I'll have to keep more of an eye out for Ursula's short works. ( )

I loved the setting for this story. And the plot is sweet. The protagonist reminds me of Discworld's Granny Weatherwax. ( )
