This simple, funny read-aloud follows a boy's exciting stroll through the countryside. The boy sees a black cat, then a brown horse, then a red cow, and so on, and before he knows it, he's being trailed by the entire menagerie!

This is a really cute pattern book. A crazy-haired little boy takes a walk through the country, seeing lots of animals along the way. Before he knows it, he's being followed by the entire list of animals--a black cat, a brown horse, a red cow, and so on. The large print, repetition, rhyme, and beautiful illustrations make this a great book for beginning readers or English language learners. Even if a student doesn't know exactly what the non-repeated words on each page are, they can look to the descriptive pictures for cues, which is still a strength. The sing-songiness of the book would also make it good for choral reading. I highly recommend this for a pattern book!
REVIEW: Catchy stanzas frolic through the Australian author Sue Williams’s simple, funny read-aloud picture book that tracks a crazy-haired boy’s stroll through the countryside.

AGE:4-5
This is a book that my children seldom request...but, if i pull it out, they both enjoy it. It has a pleasant rhythm and works well for teaching about animals. It's quite similar to Brown Bear, Brown Bear (which I prefer).
Once again, it is the fun illustrations that carry the tale of a remake of the old tale of the same name. When the boy walks he wonders what will follow him when he goes walking, as he walks along, more and more animals join in until there is a wonderful parade of a boy and many animal friends.

The child took off, but didn't abandon, their jacket and shoes! The cow is not actually very red, so be sure your little reader already knows that color and doesn't learn it from here. Cute & funny.
