Book five in the six-book Land of Stories series of kids' novels. In this one, our young protagonists, Alex and Connor, must save the land of fairy tales from devastation at the hands of villains from other classic stories. So they use their power to enter fictional worlds to recruit allies from short stories that Connor himself has written. Which include characters based on people they know in the fairy tale kingdoms, so there's something entertainingly complicated and meta about the whole thing. Like the other books in this series, it's a lot of fun and occasionally laugh-out-loud funny. And I'm actually kind of impressed with how much Connor's stories actually feel like things that might have been written by a talented teenage boy, show more with just the right mix of imagination and silliness. show less
The fairy tale world is in danger! Connor Bailey must go through his collection of short stories with his sister Alex. They recruit space robots, undead mummies, and some pirates. The Masked Man has made his own army and is now trying to take over the fairy tale kingdoms. Connor hides his army in a hospital and they put on a play for the children in it. Afterwards the Masked Man tries to kill them and they have to escape into one of Bree's stories and they end up in a graveyard with the undead. The undead take the Masked Man and deal with him. Goldilocks has her kid and all is well. JK. Morgassa, a really evil witch, casts a spell on Alex and she turns evil. It then leaves you at a cliffhanger.
I loved this book so much because it had show more my sense of humor and it was clear and decisive. I finished this in February and it was like finding me. I understood it and could read it for fun as many times as I wanted and it would still have that thrill. It was satisfying in a way it is hard to describe. I can really only say it was a fantastic book and be on my way. I can't wait to read the next one. show less

I really wasn't sure how Colfer could keep this series going and still be interesting when then intention was a trilogy. I no longer have those concerns. This story was smart and funny and scary all at the same time. I am most impressed with how Conner grows as a person. If you like fairy tales and fun, easy writing, give this series a try.
Another adventure for Alex and Conner Bailey, this time inside Conner's stories. To build an army to rescue the Fairy Tale World from the Masked Man, Conner goes looking for the characters he's created - pirates, superheros, robots and an army of mummies. Meanwhile, the Masked Man hasn't been having a very good day already, and a falling out with the Literary Villains leads him back to the Other World. Conner took the lead in this story, but given the cliff-hanger ending for Alex, she should be central to the next book, on one side or the other!
Another great story in the Land of Stories series. I love that Conner's writing and imagination are what is needed to save the day. Looking forward to reading the conclusion of this series and then starting the A Tale of Magic series.
So good! I thought this was the end of this series but i am crazy excited to see what comes next!
