Workmanlike fantasy at best, with fairly standard world-building and characterisation, and mostly unconvincing romances. Kudos for the equitable distribution of social roles among men and women, but overall, I generally expect better from Warrington (though part of me does want to see where the story goes from here…).

Interesting but somehow lacking. It does have an interesting plot and the things that the characters are doing is logical however it could have been tighter and not lose very much.
The story centres on four people from a small village when one of them is taken to work on the king's big project. Little does the king know that this project is an attempt to undermine the security of the state by a race thought defeated. By draining all the young people from the land it's going to leave the country vulnerable. When Tanthe, Lynden and Rufryd go after Ysomir to rescue her they have to learn to survive and their actions will be pivotal in defeating the evil spreading through the land.
