Description
Sheriff Pete Handy looked in the store window and felt sick to his stomach. The townspeople had a Cheyenne brave captive and were killing him. Handy knew it was too late to save the Indian, but he must try and save the settlers in town and the Indians of the Cheyenne tribes before a war broke out between the two opposing sides. Handy knew what an impossible spot he was in, a white man with a Cheyenne wife and a son. Lewis Byford Patten was a prolific author of American Western novels, born in Denver, Colorado in 1915. He often published under the names Lewis Ford, Len Leighton and Joseph Wayne. He used the last two names when writing in collaboration with Wayne D. Overholser. He died on May 22, 1981.
