It follows two story lines. Picard and Ro go to verify if the Cardassians are making a artificial wormhole and destroy it if it exists. The other story line Sam Lavelle and Taurik from Lower Deck are enslaved by the Dominion. Lavelle is given a ship to go get the material need for the new wormhole. Lavelle is determined to escape if at all possible.

It does a nice job with the relationship between Picard and Ro. Lavelle is well portrayed as someone trying to navigate a bad situation.
Picard is reunited with Ensign Ro and together they attempt to destroy an artificial wormhole the Dominion is building. A good book and quick read.
