Originally printed in 1958 (My copy 8th printing from 1968). Full of charming pen and ink illustrations. The author's father loved the book Don Quixote. The author was less than enthused as a young man. But, re-read as an older man and found the humor and pathos in the story recognizing the genius of a classic work. He decided to write about the life of the author of the book and this is the result.

The author of Don Quixote was born in Spain. A second born son. Traveled thru the country with his family in his early years as his father dispensed medical advise and care. He joined the army, was wounded in action against the Ottomans. Spent several years on garrison duty. Was captured by pirates and eventually ransomed after a couple of failed escape attempts. ( )
