Description

"DON'T THINK YOU CAN COME SNEAKING BACK HERE IF YOU ARE EVER OUT OF A JOB! "Florina's father was furious when, after a lifetime of drudgery, she finally developed the courage to rebel. But there was no danger of her returning home. Florina loved her new job as cook in the household of eminent consultant William Sedley. And it wasn't long before she realized that she loved her employer, too. But she had no chance of attracting his attention when he was engaged to the glamorous Wanda!.

This was a very nice Betty Neels book. All the comfort elements, but a few variations so it doesn't feel stale. The hero is an eminent pediatrician from the upper crust, and British, not Dutch. The heroine is a cook (half-Dutch, we have to get it in there somewhere!) and we have a basic Cinderella plot, with a mean fiancée instead of mean stepsisters. Although our heroine Florina has some insecurities based on the difference in status, unlike many Neels heroines stands up for herself and doesn't' run away, particularly when it comes to standing up for the Doctor's young daughter. Now it takes awhile for Doc to see the difference between the two women, and he is maddeningly quiet about his change of heart, but overall, it's a very fun show more and romantic story. show less
