Amnesty International sponsored this collection of poems that bring tears to the eyes of prominent, mostly British, female readers--not always tears of sorrow, but sometimes tears of joy as well. The selections are so varied and so personal that they are hard to critique as a group. Among the poems I appreciated most in this volume are "Hurt Hawks" by Robinson Jefferies (selected by Ursula K. LeGuin) and "The Bean Eaters" by Gwendolyn Brooks (selected by Nikki Giovanni).

If you like poetry, especially poetry that provokes emotions in unexpected ways, you will find this anthology well worth your time.
