Ernie Pyle's human and unforgettable picture of England under the Blitzkrieg-a deeply moving story of courage and faith. For such a renowned journalist, I expected more scintillating writing. I’m finding it merely adequate. If I wasn’t so interested in the subject, I might toss it.

I loved the book, the narrative is so vivid that it seems the war, long over, is again happening around you. I found this book years ago in a box at a used book store and couldn't resist it. I'm not sure how a first edition in that fine condition got in a box of musty old books but maybe it was part of an estate and someone missed it? Regardless, it's mine now and a prize it certainly is. ( )

Londoners pray daily that a German bomb will do something about the Albert Memorial in Kensington Gardens.  If you have seen it, you know why.
At the cheaper restaurants the checkroom has more rifles than umbrellas.
I’ve seen haircuts advertised at fifteen cents.  I’m going to get a haircut every day from now on - enough to last me for a year or two.
