A novella about Jes's sister Bettany during the events of Poisoned Blade. As a story about the-other-side-the-story, it fits in really nicely with Poisoned Blade. Things are more complicated than I - or Jes - suspected.

As a story in its own right, and an attempt to address Bettany’s attitudes towards her parents, it felt a little rushed. Perhaps unsurprisingly. A novella in which other, completely unrelated things - like introducing cultural groups from beyond Efea - are going on, doesn't leave much space for this sort of thing, and out of all the sisters, Bett seems to have the most complicated relationship with their parents.
