Description

Saint Macrina (327 - 370) was a major guiding force in the early development of monasticism and it was through her example that her brother, Saint Basil the Great, was inspired to establish one of the first monastic communities. This life, written by her other famous brother, Saint Gregory of Nyssa, is one of the masterpieces of Christian literature.

Nothing particularly insightful. St. Gregory of Nyssia writes a short biographical letter to his friend of the life of his sister St. Macrina. Most of what Mr. Corrigan wrote in the introduction is repeated in the tale. Her own tumor was healed by her mother when she did as was requested and the eye infection of an infant was healed after spending dinner with St. Macrina. It was somewhat unusual that after her husband died at a young age, she spent the rest of her mother's days never ought of her site. Nearly as much is written of her funeral as of her life.

First words
This work appears from the general form of the heading, to be a letter, but it exceeds the limits of a letter and stretches into a lengthy narrative.
Introduction: The Life of Saint Macrina, written sometimes between A.D. 380 and 388, is the story of a remarkable woman and a remarkable family.

(Click to show. Warning: May contain spoilers.)In order therefore that those who have too little faith, and who do not believe in the gifts of God, should come to no harm for this reason I have declined to make a complete record here of the greater miracles, since I think that what I Have already said is sufficient to complete Macrina's story.
