"On an Outer Rim moon, Captain Malcolm Reynolds ends a card game the lucky winner of an old map covered in mysterious symbols. The former owner insists it's worthless; back on Serenity, River Tam is able to interpret it. River claims the map points the way to one of the Arks: legendary generation ships that brought humans from Earth- That-Was to the 'Verse. The salvage potential alone is staggering. As the crew approach the aged floating ship, they find it isn't quite as dead as it first seemed. The closer they get, the more agitated River becomes. She claims something is waiting on board, something powerful, and very angry..."--Amazon.… (more)

The author certainly gives us a rollercoaster of a ride when the crew comes across a map they hope will lead to riches. I like the way something about the map is almost sinister, a foreboding of things to come. This book deals with the verse that was, and River’s origins. In some ways a simple plot, but well put together to form an action-packed sequence of events that would equal the scale of a film more than a series episode. A well-constructed original story. ( )

Generations
(Firefly #4)
by Tim Lebbon
This book has the Captain winning a strange map from a card game which gets the attention of the Alliance rebels. The map is also catnip for River. Only she can make sense of it. Where it leads the crew is somewhere they really shouldn't be!
The characters didn't seem as developed in this book as the others. I felt it was a story about them but I wasn't there like books 1 and 2. It was still a very exciting story.
I listened to the audio version. ( )

This series of books are most definitely meant for fans of the show and movie. I loved these books and forgave them all their flaws because the characters and world are much beloved by me. ( )

It was just about OK, but I didn't feel that it got the voices of the Firefly crew right, they were too undifferentiated, and the adventure seemed unlikely for them. ( )

Not a bad book in the Firefly 'verse, but author Tim Lebbon tries to hard to make everything fit. This is the "episode 8" of Firefly, too many changes to everything that has come before it for no good reason. James Lovegrove did a great job with the dialogue - you can here Nathan Fillion's voice in the written word. Generations tries to make it someone else speaking. It's a "3" based on the fact that there still something coming from Firefly, but that's about it. ( )
