Very, very creepy. Not bedtime stories, that's for sure. All the stories involve a tragic young female character. Very well-written and eerie to the max. ( )

Joyce Carol Oates is utterly fantastic when it comes to capturing the "darker" side of reality. The tales in this collection are excellent portrayals of the evil that innocent (and not so innocent) girls may encounter. ( )
