Good start to hopefully a fine and continuing series. Jack Windrush discovers his awkward antecedents and is enrolled in a disreputable regiment all in one day. His path to glory takes him to Burma and a steep learning curve in its jungles and swamps. Britain's empire building is at its peak and opportunities abound for a young officer.
