Lady Helen has retreated to a country estate outside Bath to prepare for her wedding to the Duke of Selburn, yet she knows she has unfinished business to complete. She and the dangerously charismatic Lord Carlston have learned they are a dyad, bonded in blood, and only they are strong enough to defeat the Grand Deceiver, who threatens to throw mankind into chaos. Something like a Victorian Buffy with more Demons than Vampires - though the energy sapping is quite vampiric. Lady Helen is in the throes of organising her wedding and trying to balance her role fighting the Demons while also trying to resist the ilicit attraction between herself and Carlston. The end felt a bit underwhelming but it wraps up the story.

Not bad but I think the first book in the series is my favourite. ( )

As Helen prepares to marry the Duke of Selburn, she and Lord Carlston must find and destroy the Grand Deceiver before the Grand Deceiver opens a portal to the demon world and unleashes a demon invasion upon the world. ( )

Me, during the last four chapters:

There may or may not be a full review to come but I have to say Goodman did such an amazing job!! Though I called the ending I have to say she really had me going for a bit there!! I was deceived!!

Honestly, I'm still processing I read it all in an afternoon and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed but I loved it!!

And ok but I was so convinced that the ending was going to go all Avengers and be "Lady Helen will return in Lady Carlston Book 1 One can but hope. ( )

HOW DOES SOMEONE FEEL SO COMPLETE YET SO EMPTY AT THE SAME TIME ( )

The charm of this book lies in the detailed narration which blends regency formality with modern spunk. It doesn't quite live up to Dark Days Pact, but it is a satisfying conclusion all the same. ( )
