Description

Arsene Lupin, the brilliant detective created by French writer Maurice Leblanc, was often described by critics and fans as "the French Sherlock Holmes." This cheeky volume of detective stories pokes fun at that comparison by pitting Lupin's wits against the formidable talents of one "Herlock Sholmes," a master investigator who bears a striking resemblance to a certain character created by Arthur Conan Doyle.

This is the second volume in the series featuring gentleman burglar Arsène Lupin. It is notable for his face-off with England’s greatest detective: Herlock Sholmès (and Herlock’s sidekick Wilson). The burglar antihero was amusing for the first story, but I lost interest after that. It was a combination of finding Lupin rather smarmy and not liking Wilson being the “Stupid Watson” (the real Watson isn’t dumb, just less smart than Holmes!). I may watch the Netflix series, and I may not be disappointed if it deviates from the source material.
A fun story!
Not the best Lupin story or characterizations, but "Herlock Sholmes" was very funny.
The rivalry was enjoyable, and poor "Wilson" was very funny (I feel like some Sherlock Holmes film adaptations treat Watson as if he is as clueless as this version is).
The opening mystery was stronger than any of the other thefts, in my opinion.
audiosync free title 2023, classic mystery (7hrs) - several unsolvable mysteries and an uncatchable criminal mastermind (with an unidentified "blonde lady" accomplice)... fortunately Mr. Herlock Sholmes (and his assistant Mr. Wilson) is available to take the case, I guess. No significant female or minority characters.

A tongue-in-cheek satire of the Sherlock Holmes stories.
FROM SYNC: David Timson masterfully narrates this entertaining mystery in which two formidable opponents match wits. Famed English detective Herlock Sholmes is initially called to Paris to investigate the disappearance of a blue diamond. The prime suspect is Arsène Lupin, the legendary gentleman thief and master of disguise, who was introduced in 1905 by French author Maurice Leblanc. Timson keeps the tension high as Lupin eludes and tricks Sholmes and his trusted assistant, Wilson, even causing them to become trapped overnight in an empty house. Timson expertly creates each character, including an array of male and female secondary personalities. He imbues Lupin with a bold, canny demeanor and expresses notes of exasperation amid show more Sholmes's determined persona. Listeners will stay glued to their headphones throughout the twisty fun.
