This book has awesome illustrations, more like a comic book, it also includes speech bubbles for the characters to speak. This book is an amazing story about Billie Jean King's life as a child, and growing up. She really wanted to be a baseball player, but only boys played, and she really didn't think that was fair. But then she discovered tennis. So she worked odd jobs for her neighbors to save up for a tennis racquet. Then followed around the free coach around Long Beach's public parks, and the rest was history. The book also talks about the former strong women tennis players who came before. Billie Jean worked hard for women's equal pay for tennis. We also learn about her fight for equal rights for women. She made changes in the show more sport of tennis with other women to make it better for all. show less
I'm enjoying this series. I like the messages about perseverance and hard work, of course. And the back matter. This entry also reminded me that you *parents* need to remember to support your child's passions! :)
