Classic Literature. Fiction. Humor (Fiction.) HTML:

A romance novel that unfolds against the backdrop of a woefully amateurish poultry farm? It may sound like a bizarre concept for a book, but presented with P.G. Wodehouse's trademark wit and charm, this seemingly outlandish plot is transformed into a knee-slappingly hilarious read. Whether you're in it for the love story or the uproarious humor, Love Among the Chickens offers a much-needed dose of levity to any reader.

It's one of my favourite books by Wodehouse. I think I already read it three or four times and I always enjoyed it very much. It's charming and crazy at the same time and I love it. ( )

Delicious fun! Wodehouse's novel, written before the more well-known tales of Jeeves and Wooster, makes for entertaining distraction. B.J. Harrison narrates the rollicking farce with evident delight. Here's one instance when a self-assured blowhard with no experience for the task he undertakes seems funny.

Summer reading highlight shared with my favorite driving companion as the miles went by. ( )

This was such a lot of fun, just what I needed. Lots of laughs and it was even more fun if you read it with Jeremy Garnet having Hugh Laurie's voice. His proper English voice, not his Greg House voice. ( )

Also very funny, just like the Wooster novels. The narrator is a novelist, and the subject, Ukridge, is a bit of a con-man. So the narrative voice is rather different. ( )

I can only take so much Wodehouse. ( )

Book description
Penguin Classics blurb:
Giving us our first jaw-dropping encounter with Stanley Feathersonehaugh Ukridge, Love Among the Chickens, published in 1906 (and revised in 1920 to accommodate the inflation in egg prices), launched P.G. Wodehouse's career, and that of his larger-than-life anti-hero.
Ukridge has hit upon a foolproof plan to get rich quick: he's starting a chicken farm. Dragging his adoring wife Millie and his long-suffering friend and novelist Jeremy Garnet with him to Dorset he begins his enterprise. En route, however, Garnet has fallen in love.
Complications in classic Wodehousian style ensue, involving the taciturn Hired Man and his bumptious dog Bob, supercilious chickens, irascible professors, angry creditors and divided lovers. For the luck reader, it is sheer hilarity ...
