My main quibble with this book is the illustrations: they're way too inconsistent. They include: photographs, black and white line drawings, watercolor-esque, and computer clipart. (And don't get me started on the fact that some entries don't have an illustration at all!) So yes, technically it's an "illustrated history," but the illustrations are underwhelming at best.

I definitely wouldn't call this "definitive" either, but I did learn a few interesting things at least. ( )
