The Sixties through the eyes of a Village Voice movie critic. Although the book is too narrowly focused on New York, Washington, and Hollywood, its thesis still seems inescapable: that the "dream life" on the silver screen merged with and swallowed the country's political life until fantasy became more real than the issues or the news. Hoberman is right; our first movie star president wasn't Ronald Reagan. It was JFK.
