The Duke of Carlyle takes to his bed, in order to force his roguish son to marry. After extracting a promise to do so, the Duke and Duchess hold a ball to introduce Alexander to the available ladies. One of these ladies is Elizabeth, the owner of Bething’s Folly, a racing stud. What man about town can resist horses or horse racing; a marriage of convenience follows along misunderstandings and of course, a horse race.
This is a charming book. Barbara Metzer has a gift for writing a scene that can be easily visualized and the dialogue between the characters is comical. My only complaint is that it is too short, only 151 pages. It is a quick fun read.
