Description

"Me & Patsy Kickin' Up Dust shares the 'important and inspiring' (Miranda Lambert) never-before-told complete story of the remarkable relationship between country music icons Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn. Loretta Lynn and the late Patsy Cline are legends--country icons and sisters of the heart. For the first time ever Loretta tells their story: a celebration of their music and their relationship up until Patsy's tragic and untimely death. Full of laughter and tears, this eye-opening, show more heartwarming memoir paints a picture of two stubborn, spirited country gals who'd be damned if they'd let men or convention tell them how to be. Set in the heady streets of the 1960s South, this nostalgia ride shows how Nashville blossomed into the city of music it is today. Tender and fierce, Me & Patsy Kickin' Up Dust is an up-close-and-personal portrait of a friendship that defined a generation and changed country music indelibly--and a meditation on love, loss and legacy"--Amazon.com. show less

It’s amazing sometimes how so much love and friendship can be packed into such a short time period. For less than two years, Loretta and Patsy had an intense friendship; then Patsy was killed in a plane crash less than 21 months after they met. That fleeting wonder and joy in finding a soul sister is lovingly expressed here.

Also I hope at some point before he died, Loretta kicked her husband Doo in the balls; I mean she’d never had an orgasm in the first fifteen years of her marriage (there’s a chapter on it in here)!?—seriously, JFC.
I just read the recently published* Me & Patsy by Loretta Lynn in which Loretta Lynn describes her friendship with Patsy Cline. Although they only had about two years together, they became close friends and helped each other with their careers. Patsy was a mentor for Loretta. The book gets a bit repetitious at times, but describes a valuable friendship and a lot about the country music industry, especially in the 1960s. Loretta's descriptions of Patsy singing her well-known songs are especially enjoyable. Loretta mentions many other people involved in country music including musicians, music recorders, producers, etc. Men pretty much ran the industry; Patsy and Loretta through their careers stood up to the men instead of always doing show more what they were told.

A paean to lost beloved friend and a friendship between two remarkable women which lasted less than three years and was ended by a tragic accident when the author was still very much at the perfect friendship stage. Loretta and Patsy never had to compete because Patsy was at the top of her career and Loretta was well started but nowhere near Patsy's level of success. So, though their lives and marriages had problems the friendship was hardly troubled. The actual meat of the book is sparse though worthwhile, the padding isn't of the same level.

Loved this. This is so sweet, it will make you laugh, cheer and cry. These two strong women paved the way for so many women. This would be a great book club pick.
An excellent story of two great ladies in the country music industry. For fans of women in country music this is truly a great book with so much honesty about the lives of two great ladies of country music.
