I bought the study guide as a guide to help me ask a teenaged family member thoughtful, academic questions, as she and I were reading The Hate U Give together.

I would have preferred the knowledge survey and research paper sections to be in the front of the study guide. With the knowledge survey, it had questions to answer before starting the book, at chapter 14, and after completing the book. I wish that had been in the beginning of the study guide.

Overall, I found it helpful. There were some issues, like the author mixing up two of the characters' names, which confused me until I realized that had happened. Some occasional inconsistencies, like writing Molly instead of Maya.

There aren't too many study guides out there for contemporary books and this one did have value in terms of thoughtful questions and discussions. It's certainly not perfect but overall, it was useful.
