Big city politics, nasty secrets, a dirty cop, and a deranged sociopath set the stage for a riveting journey deep into the urban jungle. The last scion of a once-powerful political family, Worrcester mayor John O'Toole has his sights set on vastly higher aspirations. When night shift paramedic Thomas Archer uncovers a secret that could upend the mayor's career, O'Toole is set on silencing him, and sends Eamon Conroy, a brutal former cop, to ensure the truth remains under wraps. But O'Toole doesn't stop there. With bribes, buried secrets, and personal attacks, he wreaks havoc on Archer's life in an attempt to save himself. Archer's troubles continue to mount when domestic terrorist and militia member Gerald Knak, who blames Archer for his wife's recent death, sets in motion a deadly plan for revenge. With two forces of evil aligned against him, Archer doesn't stand a chance. But things aren't always what they seem--and he may just have a few tricks up his sleeve in a last gambit to get out alive.… (more)

A great combo of political drama and chrome novel from a completely fresh view of an ambulance medic. Definitely a different spin that the usual books in this genre. However, I would have liked more character development and more emotional investment in their personal life. ( )

This was not an easy to like or easy to read book. There was so much evil and corruption in this story.
Thank you LibraryThing for allowing me to read it but I do not recommend it. ( )

Received as an Early Reviewer. This one started slowly for me, but the more I read the more drawn into the story I got. The involvement of so many characters and the in-depth storyline and character development draws you into the story. ( )

Received as part of the Early Reviewer program. This book has been on my bookshelf for awhile now and I finally got around to reading it, and I am glad I did. It's a gritty dark thriller set in Worcester Mass. The main character, Thomas Archer is a paramedic who has to deal with both political powers and a crazed man who thinks Archer killed his wife. I got a Dennis Lehane vibe from this author's writing. Highly recommend the book.

Review: Every Hidden Thing by Ted Flanagan. 4* 11/07/2021

This was an Early Reviewers Book that I received from a publisher to read. The Author just happens to be paramedic and a former daily newspaper writer that is no stranger to EMT life and does a great job putting his words in writing.

The books story is set in Worcester, Massachusetts where the character Tom Archer wanted the entire truth to be told about powerful people and there hidden agenda’s. He felt that he had nothing to lose now since his son was dying. Another character Lu who is also a long time reporter who is hit with a harsh reality when she finds herself divorced and no financial support from her ex-husband and facing the end to a thirty year old job.

The story is well written, I enjoyed the well developed characters and the reality of the story. Flanagan leaves nothing out when it comes to emotions and descriptive situations throughout the book. This debut book is amazing and while reading the contents I feel myself going deeper into the everyday evil that overwhelms the possibilities of goodness and hope. It was a thought provoking story.
