Fool's Errand

Description
What if you suddenly discovered the man of your dreams...only to fall asleep? For Patrick Beaton, it means casting off on a quest for the elusive Scottish Prince who spoke a few words to him and disappeared into the mists of a dream. Reminiscent of Armistead Maupin's 'Tales of the City', Louis Bayard's debut novel is a sparkling romantic comedy, where plots take hairpin bends, disorder reigns and love triumphs - though in an unexpected way.Tags

I really enjoy this book in spite of its cutesy cover art, so much so that I'm reading it for a third time. The protagonist is very accessible, very everyday -- a gay male character I identify with as a gay male. I wish I could find more books with characters like him.
I found the book kind of tedious and almost stopped reading it about halfway. Instead I cheated and read the end, which didn't make plodding through it any easier. The main character, Patrick Beaton, seemed cold and aloof to me. The other character, Seth, just seemed too unrealistic and goofy, without any redeeming features. The book is quite long at 486 pages of nothing much happening at all.
