Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is natuurlijk een meesterwerk. Treasure Island interesseert me dan weer evenveel als Bambi. The Suicide Club kende ik reeds, maar had ik geblinddoekt niet aan Stevenson toegeschreven. The Bottle Imp, The Nixie, The Sinking Ship ...

Meer dan met die andere Graphic Classics was dit voor mij een introductie tot Stevensons werk. Of de hier verbeelde verhalen en gedichten het beste vertegenwoordigen dat Stevenson schreef weet ik dus niet, zeker is wel dat ze - net als de grafische bewerkingen ervan - van erg wisselende kwaliteit (en omvang) zijn. The Bottle Imp is te lang en werd grafisch slordig uitgewerkt. Met The Nixie werd grafisch dan weer heel erg weinig gedaan, net als met de tweede helft van Jekyll and Hyde, maar de verhalen zelf overtuigen wel. Een aantal illustraties bij de kortste gedichten of fabels had niet misstaan op de cover van een aflevering in de boucquet-reeks.

Ik onthoud Tom Pomplun (ook de redacteur van de gehele Graphics-reeks), Simon Gane, Hunt Emerson, Pedro Lopez, Maxon Crumb (broer van) en natuurlijk ook Robert Crumb. Verder Peter Gullerud, Frank Stack en Roger Langridge.
