Not my usual genre of books but I enjoyed stepping outside my comfort zone with this one. It was an interesting examination of spirituality through fiction and the choices one makes. ( )

Well, it is now clear to me that the metaphysical is not something that I'm incredibly interested in. The Energy Inside Valsin's Choices led me into a world of future lives impacted by past choices, and this didn't really make sense to me. I ended up not finishing the book. ( )

As it turns out metaphysical fiction, or at the very least, this take on it is not my jam. dnf after less than 30 pages.

**LibraryThing Early Reviewers Win**

Set in 1862 New Orleans, this story follows Valsin who is immortal and can live through centuries. The story follows his decisions and becomes a treatise on things both metaphysical and physical. The story unfolds with each choice and how those ripples have effects - some immediate and others decades in the future.

I'm not entirely sure I captured the story as it's meant to be realized and that's my own fault for not paying close enough attention but overall, I liked the combination of history, drama, and questions about karma and spiritual being that were being explored. The setting of NOLA right before the Civil War was a good choice as that sets the reader firmly in history and gives such a colorful and rich voice to the characters and their culture throughout.

**All thoughts and opinions are my own.**

The cover to this book is one of the best that I have ever seen, and I’ve seen a lot. Billed as a combination of historical and metaphysical fiction, this is something that I have never read before and was an intriguing read.
